What is Colon Hydrotherapy?

Also known as Colon Cleansing or Colon Irrigation, Colon Hydrotherapy is an effective and safe procedure to eliminate digestive waste, which leads to a build-up of toxins from the colon, and that too without the use of medication or supplementation.

The colon is gently rinsed with filtered warm water that softens the fecal matter and promotes peristalsis. This detoxifies the colon and removes faeces, excess mucus, harmful toxins, and other effluents.

Fecal matter contains toxins, and if it remains in the colon for elongated periods, can lead to serious health issues. These toxins can penetrate the colon walls and enter the bloodstream resulting in inflammation, bloating, and other illnesses, and impairing the assimilation and absorption of essential minerals. Stagnated faecal waste inhibits peristalsis and leads to constipation or irregular bowel movement which further causes numerous other health issues.

How was it originated?

Colon therapy has been practiced since ancient times and in many cultures.

References have been found in the Egyptian medical document, ‘Eber Papyrus’, which dates back to 1500 B.C. Not only the Egyptians but there are also references recorded in Hindu medical texts such as the Susruta Samhita, the work of Susruta, the father of Hindu surgery.

Greeks were also quite the users of this therapy and renowned Greek physician Hippocrates was also a proponent of this therapy. The enema was also a favourite mode of treatment for Nigerians and the early African races. It is reported that in certain African tribes, a hollowed cow horn was utilized for this therapy while some used a hollow reed to induce water flow to the colon.

In the early 1900s, colon therapy was extensively used by John H. Kellogg, M.D. on some forty thousand patients. In 1917, he reported in the Journal of the American Medical Association — that in all but 20 cases — he did not use surgery for the treatment of gastrointestinal disease.

The popularity of colon therapy reached its apex in the 1920s, ’30s, and ’40s and was regularly used as a standard practice, in hospitals and Doctor’s offices. But in the next 50 to 60 years the use of this valuable health treatment greatly decreased due to the widely held belief by orthodox medicine that such treatments are no longer useful. That may be the single most important factor in the deterioration of the general health of our population. Surgery or the use of drugs cannot achieve proper bowel management and health. Colon Hydrotherapy, hence, is the answer because it is a time-proven and natural approach!

In the last 10 years, things have started to change as more and more people are realizing the damaging and lasting side effects of drugs such as antibiotics and unhealthy eating habits which has led to a resurgence of interest in alternative medicine and natural therapies. The development of sophisticated colon therapy techniques and ultra-modern therapy machines make these therapies both safe and convenient. It is expected that using alternative health therapies to restore and maintain health will be joined by traditional health care practitioners.

What to eat before Colonic Hydrotherapy?

For an effective and comfortable colonic experience, we advise you to limit your intake of sugary foods and fried and bakery items at least 24-48 hours before your treatment. Avoid eating heavy protein foods like red meat and pork. Increase your water intake and also the amount of fiber in your food.

We suggest 3 hours of fasting on the day of treatment, you can, however, consume some liquids like green tea, juices, or water. The whole process takes around 45-60 minutes and we advise you to reach 15 minutes before the start of your treatment.

Do eat raw fruits and veggies, lightly steamed low starch vegetables, organic raw nuts, and seeds. Have plenty of omega 3, 6, 9 fatty acids, coconut oils, avocados, and cold-pressed plant oils (olive and sesame oil). 

What to do after Colon Hydrotherapy?

  FOODS TO AVOID FOR AT LEAST 24 HOURS AFTER THE PROCEDURE: After the colon cleanse, the next step is healthy diet, which holds the most important part in detoxification.  We must learn to have a Balanced Diet. “You are what you eat” If you continue to your old habits of eating unhealthy and untimely food, you will end up with the same bad results. If you eat healthy you get healthy results and if you eat unhealthily, it will lead to only health issues.  We recommend removing highly processed foods and foods to which some people are sensitive and intolerant, such as dairy, gluten, eggs, peanuts, and red meat, sugary snacks, coffee, or tea with caffeine alcohol etc.   FOODS YOU CAN EAT FOR THE NEXT 24 HOURS: We recommend eating mostly organically grown vegetables, fruit, whole non-glutenous grains, nuts, seeds, and lean protein.
  • Greek Yogurt: Consuming probiotics in supplement form is one popular way to get them, but you can also get them from fermented foods. Greek Yogurt is one of the best sources of probiotics, the friendly bacteria that can improve your health.
  • Fresh Fruits: A number of fruits are known for producing less gas. Still, it’s a good idea to eat them in moderation. The more fruit you eat—even of these less gassy options—the higher your chances are of having unwanted gas: Blueberries, Cantaloupe, Clementine, Grapes, Honeydew, Kiwi, Pineapple, Raspberries, Strawberries.
  • Fresh Vegetables: Plenty of vegetables are low in carbohydrates and unlikely to cause gas. These are all good for you, so feel free to pile them onto your plate. You might even consider making a simple salad out of them and turning that into your big meal. Some includes Bell peppers, Bok choy, Cucumber, Fennel, Greens, such as kale or spinach, Lettuce, Zucchini.
  • Green Smoothies & Fresh Homemade Juices:  Green smoothies are nutrient-rich blends of fruits and vegetables. Smoothies are also an easy way to take supplements like super green powder, spirulina, or other powdered vitamins and minerals just by adding a serving into the blender.
  • Hydration: 3 Litre Water in a day, Coconut water
  • Wholegrains & Foods high in fibre: Brown Rice, Millets, Quinoa, etc.
  • Herbal Drinks: Green Tea/Herbal Tea
  • Vegetable Soups:  Spinach soup, Vegetable soup
  • Nuts and Seeds: such as almonds, basil seeds, chia seeds, and flaxseeds
